CAVURN – Rehearsal
Blood Harvest Records
In Rehearsal, their first widely public album release, CAVURN invokes images of their namesake in three tracks of foreboding, gritty death metal. Hailing from Washington, USA, the band entwines murky, demonic vocals with just the right highlight of throaty thrasher screams to incite dread. The listener traverses through a melancholic core of bass and vocals, otherworldly transitions, and full-throttle riffs orchestrated and executed with perfect timing. Unlike many metal bands, CAVURN gives life to a feculent sound without seeming forced or ostentatious; Rehearsal’s atmospheric tensions slither through the psyche awakening shadows of the mind. With only three tracks, the drama is over all too soon, nevertheless, it is a suitable addition to a brash party playlist, or for reading your favourite macabre titles by candlelight. An exciting release for any who prefer metal rooted in guttural earthiness over high-range radicalization.
